Convert iPhone MOV, MKV and WEBM videos to MP4 that plays anywhere. Videos that already fit in MP4 are simply repackaged without re-encoding, so the quality stays the same and it's done in seconds.
Use it when MOV videos from your iPhone won't open on a Windows PC or on work or school systems, when the site you're uploading to only accepts MP4, or when you need to play downloaded MKV or WEBM videos on a phone or TV. Just changing the file extension often leaves the video unplayable, but this tool actually repackages the video into a real MP4 file.
Q. My iPhone MOV file won't open on my PC. Will converting it to MP4 fix that?
Yes. With 'Works everywhere', it saves an MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) that almost every PC, phone and website can read. It also re-encodes iPhone's default HEVC (High Efficiency) videos to H.264.
Q. What's the difference between 'Works everywhere' and 'Fast, original quality'?
'Fast, original quality' just moves the video into an MP4 container without re-encoding, so it's done in seconds and the quality stays the same. But if the original is HEVC, it stays HEVC, so some PC players may not open it. 'Works everywhere' does the same quick repackaging when the original is already H.264, and otherwise re-encodes it to H.264.
Q. Can I convert MKV, WEBM or AVI to MP4 too?
MKV, WEBM, M4V and MPEG-TS (.ts) can be converted to MP4. AVI, WMV and FLV aren't supported yet because browsers can't read them.
Q. Will the quality drop? How long does it take?
If the original is H.264, it's just repackaged into MP4 without re-encoding, so the quality stays the same. A 20-second 1080p H.264 MOV (28 MB) took less than a second in Chrome on a PC. Re-encoding HEVC or VP9 video to H.264 loses a tiny bit of quality, but it uses a generous bitrate to preserve the original quality; a 1080p HEVC video of the same length took about 5 seconds. Phones take longer depending on the device.
Q. Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Apchukso has no server that receives files. Your video is read and repackaged as MP4 inside the browser you're using, then downloaded straight to your device. Even if you turn off Wi-Fi after opening the page, it converts just the same.
